     Any Foreign nationals sintending to leave Japan must receive confirmation of departure from immigration inspector. The immigration authority confirms each foreign nationals' departure from Japan in order to precisely get grip on foreign nationals leaving Japan. The confirmation of departure scheme does not put any restriction on foreign national's departure from Japan.
  In principle, the immigration authority confirms foreign national's departure from Japan by affixing the stamp on the foreign national's passport. If a foreign national has landed Japan with a valid certificate, the immigration authority collects the certificate from the foreign national. A foreign national leaves Japan with a valid re-entry certificate must also receive confirmation before leaving Japan.
   If a foreign national leaves Japan, his/her status of residence and stay period expires. However, if a foreign national leaves Japan with a valid re-entry permit, his/her status of residence and stay period remain effective as long as the foreign national reenters Japan within applicable stay period.
   If a foreign national leaves Japan or attempts to leave Japan without departure confirmation, the foreign national will be subject to criminal penalty (Article 71 of the Immigration Control Act).
